Skin POEtry: Dermaplaning

By Leah Poe

Hi friends! I had such a good time sharing my thoughts about body exfoliation with you last month, that I have decided to share one of my favorite treatments with you!  Dermaplaning! This is my favorite service to perform because my clients see and feel immediate results right after their service. This is an exfoliating treatment that is quick and painless, and an efficient way to remove dead skin cells and vellus hairs (that annoying peach fuzz). One of the biggest concerns, when talking to my clients, was that removing the peach fuzz will make their hair grow back darker or faster…the answer is a loud NO! Dermaplaning will not alter or impact your hair follicles, and it won’t influence the speed on which your hair grows back.

One of the many reasons why I love this treatment is that it allows for better penetration of your creams, serums, masks, and other skin care products that you use. This is super beneficial when it comes to dry, dehydrated, and dull skin; imagine how well your products will work now that the layer of dead skin and hair have been removed! There is no down time with this treatment, the only thing I suggest is to not apply any retinol products or exfoliate 24 hours after your service. Sunscreen is a must, something that I hope you’re already applying every morning!

If Acne scars, dry and dull skin, fine lines and wrinkles are areas that you are looking to improve, dermaplaning is a great option for you. Why, you ask? If you have any scars from acne, dermaplaning helps reduce the appearance of scars by removing the discoloration and uneven texture that’s associated with scar tissue and encourages your skin to create more collagen. It helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles by rebuilding and repairing the skin and aids in the acceleration of cellular metabolism within the skin.

The makeup artist in me really appreciates this treatment before makeup applications because concealer, foundation, tinted moisturizer, and powder is applied smoother and more even, and less product is used. I remember when I applied my makeup after my first dermaplaning treatment, I was in shock at how silky my skin felt and noticed that I didn’t use as much product that I’ve used in the past!

Great news for acne prone skin…by removing the top layer of dead skin cells, this treatment prevents oils, debris, and dead skin from being trapped inside the follicle. But unfortunately, if you have an active acne breakout or using Accutane you must wait until your breakout clears up and discontinue taking Accutane for 6 months.

Like with everything, consistency is key to achieving the results that you are looking for. New cells are regenerated every 28 days, so I recommend a dermaplaning treatment every three to four weeks. I am offering facial memberships to make it easier to plan and keep up with your skincare treatments to ensure maximum results.

Last but certainly not least, the February product of the month is one of my favorites…The Vital-C Hydrating Facial Cleanser. This cleanser smells like a freshly squeezed orange, infused with Vitamins A, C, and E which support healthy-looking, radiant skin. This creamy cleanser also gently removes makeup and impurities leaving your skin soft and refreshed. Please mention this blog when purchasing this product of the month so you can take advantage of 10% off, as well as a deluxe sample size of our Vital-C serum.

Thanks for taking the time to read about my favorite treatment and product and looking forward to catching up next month! As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions, feedback, or suggestions on anything beauty or skin for next month’s topic!
